Rainforest Lady

She lives on the island

Though her hearts back east

Absorbing rainy days in dampness

She thinks of snow blowing in the streets

Loves to laugh and listens to country music

Nor shy to enjoy a dance and a drink or two

She means so much to you

Her boys, yeah now their grown

Though still their mom,

They now have women of their own

Her holidays can drag

With only memories of before

Still she carry’s on

Ever growing, learning

Always seeking new and more

Her eyes flash with brilliance

As her smile lights the room

Living caring for others

It’s just what she wants to do

Her urge to feel needed always shining through

And try as you might to deny it

She means so much to you

She’s as happy hiking the wooded trail

Or catching fish on the river

As travelling to a sunny shore

Real as the day is long

Authentic to a fault

The girl next door, though with twice the life smarts

Yeah there’s times

She can be moody or upset

But it passes quickly

You soon forget

Her feet get cold in winter

While a tasteful meal she can cook

Chilling with her dog Smudge and her cat named Boots

And you know it , and some days she knows it too

Even when not spoken

Truth is, she’s grown

To mean so much to you.

Kabul Has Fallen

Kabul has fallen

Haitian earthquake 7.2

Floods in Tokyo

Wild fires burning

Situation out of control

Killer hornets at the border

While world wide the pandemic

Rages through

It’s as The Stones once asked

“What’s a poor boy to do”

Refugees, evacuees

Indigenous bodies surface

Statues toppled

History revised or merely now

Properly rewritten

While politicians buy our votes

With unearned money

They just keep printing

You’re mind and heart

Wants to help then scream

They can’t decide the difference

As 24 hour news

Bombards your senses

Yet close your eyes

Then refocused open

See the beauty in the sunrise

The purple wild flower blooming

Hear the birds orchestrate

Their songs

Watch the toddling child

Giggle, marvelling over an ant

Tell those that matter you love them

As long as we breath,

Humanity has another chance.

Yes, sadly Kabul fell this morning

And yet there’s no disconnect

If today you also dance.

Observation #22

Older man

With a long silvered and grey beard

His face mask on

Sitting on the hotel lobby chair

Watching the young women checking in

Choices and decisions made

Roads taken or not

Brought his life to this point

Looking back he’s done but hasn’t got a lot

What’s he thinking

With his beer belly

Hanging over his shorts

Is his mind spinning wisdom

Or just derogatory retorts

Does he still have dreams

Hopes and schemes

Or is he simply

As he seems

Would he change things

Assuming he could

With alternate picks

Would his present be all good?

Now he moves,

Sorta shuffles towards the elevator doors

Soon he’ll be ensconced

In his tiny room upstairs

Another of his days

Just about passed

When at his age

Could be his last

Just a silvered, grey bearded man

Sitting on the arm chair

In the hotel lobby

Is he just living or is he really alive?

Crackle (minus refrain)

All that day

The heat beat down

Like a smithy’s hammer

On an anvil, did it pound

Then that night

As the mountain breezes

Insidiously came around

The air became electric

Changes coming,

They did sound

This feeling

Admittedly exciting

As danger often is

Though we’re feign to admit it

Excitement lost since we were kids

Yet it was there

Tangible, palatable and real

Kinetic requiring my interaction

Not yet knowing if

Would be pleasurable or ordeal

It had to be faced

It’s reckoning inevitable

Tomorrow held trepidation

Though a world of possible wonder too.

Hotel

The hotel lobby

Eerily empty

The rooms Queen sized bed

Only warm on one side

Masked people

Walking outside my window

Down in the parking lot

All very strange

I’m not from here

Yet impossible to get home

Travel bans everywhere

Only politicians having fun

One shot summer

Two shot Fall

All we get are moving promises

Major fail by them all

Don’t miss the shopping

Not much I ever need to buy

Hair, I can let it grow

Gyms well I workout at home

Restaurants I use rarely only when not cooking on my own

Then there’s you, who

I care for and love

You; I miss daily

Life’s boring going through it alone

Can’t wait to see you

When I finally get home.

One shot summer

Two shot Fall

Loves the only missing

Component I need now.

Being Human

Not boomers or millennials

Nor Gen whatever’s

No tribal affiliation

Or political stripe

No ageists or kids

No white, black or other

No gender or preferences

For we are all as one another

I am not fed, if others go hungry

Not sheltered am I

While others sleep rough

Not healthy, as others lack

Even basic medical care

No wealth justified

As others struggle on poor

No privilege earned

As others discriminated

No representation valid

While others go unnoticed

We are but one,

Meant to support each other

While with nature be in harmony

Divest each of us

Our accumulated good fortune

Rather ensure the success

Of all those around us

No countries better than another

No colour or creed

That trumps the other

Only together, with care for each other

Will we ever reach

The fullness of humanity

Unprecedented Situation

Confusion reigns all around

Politicians self promote

Yet no truth abounds

Stress and worry

Mount on our brains

Know this is our reality

You’re not insane

Media quantity focused

Quality of posts or news flashes

Go unnoticed

Announcers smile after stories

About loss of life

As they mindlessly comment

On latest Tik Tok posts

For those struggling

The world is a stranger

Holidays pass with not even a notice

Super Bowl games, latest movie

New York Times best seller

To be read never

Living in a parallel world

Where food and shelter

Commandeer every waking moment ahead

As sleep becomes only relief

Comatose yet in peace

While lying sleeping in bed.

The world is not right

It’s imbalances clear

Children go hungry

While sports fans cheer

Governments take breaks

While their constituents suffer

There’s no outlet for the desperation they utter

In the middle of all this

That’s amiss

What’s real and important

In life

Surfaces quick

Each day it’s your gift

Live it, enjoy it

In spite of your strife

If you live someone

Tell them

If you need help then ask

If the sunrise makes you happy

Celebrate its arrival

If loneliness at night

Makes you shudder

Reach out to another

When you have little

Give what you can

To make another’s day

A bit better than.

7th Day Rain

Southern rock, music playing

H2O drops keep falling

Thoughts of you layering

Across my mind, this Sunday afternoon.

Sky dreary, a pastel smokey grey

It’s a laid back kinda day

Sipping whisky, letting the music say

All the things on my mind this Sunday

Sure, tomorrow will arrive

In the morning around 5

As life will become hectic again

While somewhere in tomorrow’s minutes

I’ll think of you and today’s rain again.

Music take me everywhere I need to go

Whisky be the key

To open the door

To home once more

Sunday rains this afternoon

Tonight I’d be satisfied

Sharing with you

A view of the moon.

This Winter Night

It’s a cold winter night

Thoughts of you my only light

Hours spent trying to make us right

While the cold winds blow

I hear the stars cry tonight

As the moon shines ever so bright

As on the other side of the world

The sun eases to noon

My only thought tonight

Is to be with you soon

Time gone by is meaningless

Like a second in a flash

The present meets the past

And the cold winter damp

Sends chills down my spine

As all I want in life

Is you to be mine

Snowflakes fall

As tears of the heart

To the ground

Just need to see you

When I turn around

So tonight, your high noon

Stop and think of me

As I walk into your room

Let all before begone

I’ve loved you oh so long

Just smile and open your arms

Feel the love I give

Hold onto the sun

That shines when winters done

And catch the snowflakes

As they fall

Occupying My Space

Thought of you

As I awoke today

I just smiled

Not sure of what to say

It’s all good anyway

As I often think of you

Throughout my days

And you’re so close

Yet far away

Miles in the mind

Seem to melt away

In dreams too

You appear and stay

All night in your own way

Simply there, feel you in the air

Time and space dissipate

As smiles and laughter permeate

Yeah you occupy my space

As I enjoy the journey, there’s no race

And you’re so close

Yet far away

Miles in the mind

Seem to melt away
