The Entrance

Day of endless burning sun

Driving in your Rav 4 , always our time on the run

Speeding home along the highway from The Entrance

Your hand held in mine

As dance music , your favorite playing on the radio

Time stood still and in that instant you were mine

Yet ghosts from your past

Reverberated all around

It’s a comforting lie

That time heals all

In fact it merely scars the deeply serrated heart

As the fee for what was

Continues to collect interest

As time marching along

leaves us apart.

Wish I Could Write …

It’s true I’m a rocker

Love those fiery riffs

Live for the pounding drums

Lead singer strutting his stuff

Yet tonight wish I wasn’t

Wish I could write you a country song

One where the singers life

Is reborn

When he meets the woman

After the storm

A song that he sings

Expressing his love and care

Tired from the road

Looking to rest somewhere

One that pays homage

To the wonder that you are

To the smiles that you give me

You’re the star in my sky

A song with your pet cat

With nowhere drives

Into the sun

A simple sweet dreams

When our day is done

Write you a country song

Wish that I could

With pick up trucks

Campfires in the wood

Flannel shirts and old blue jeans

Coffees shared in the morn

Watching the hockey game

With beers in the evening

Where in our house

Laughing is the norm

Ah but I’m a rocker

You’re a new country queen

So glad we found a place to meet in between

Tonight wish I could write you

A country song

Long Weekend

Been sitting in the sun

Drinking beer

Streaming my music

Through the ear buds

Just feeling the late Spring sun

Washing it’s welcome heat over me

Bush in the garden , I don’t know it’s name

Clustered with bees seeking nectar

In the Queen bees name

Messaged an artist friend

He’s sorta famous now

His work in galleries now

Yet I knew him when

Lately been cutting my lawn

With a small pair of scissors

Yeah it takes time

But it’s peaceful and clears the mind

Brings a certain satisfaction when it’s all cut down

Oh Tom Waitts sing me a lullaby

One of your songs that can make me cry

Long weekends almost gone

So’s the beer too

Though I’m not being paid

My minds on work still.

Then as the remedy so sweet and sublime

I simply think of you

And there is no time

Gift of happiness

Given and eagerly consumed.

Oh that I could be with you now

On a child’s park swing.

Sunday Sun

Sometimes it’s just a Sunday sun

With Lynard Skynard on the turntable

Or Greg Allman’s One more silver dollar spinning slow

Cut crystal glass of Canadian whisky

Sitting back, letting the warm memories flow

Planning for tomorrow

Whatever it holds

Drifting through the afternoon

Relaxing as I go

Things I’ve done

Many more to do

Life’s a journey

Moving fast

So take it slow

Sip on life

For those days will surely come

When you’ve got to simply

Gulp it down

Strumming the acoustic

Feeling the blues

Tumbling down

Sunny Sunday

Time just hanging around

Ready, so ready

For a new adventure

Man needs a challenge

To survive

Shake up the usual

Speak up, if you wanna join my ride

Highways open

Sky is wide

Feeling good if you’re by my side

Come on then

Let’s take a Sunday ride

Mustang’s revving it’s ready to go

So over watching Netflix shows

Hit the pedal

Shift into gear

Sit back

Tomorrows so near

And we’ll drive

Deep into the night

Waken ourselves

Through our speeding flight

Everything’s good

Your in my thoughts tonight.

You don’t have to

You don’t have to be beautiful

And you don’t have to be rich

You’ve just got to stand with me baby

When life goes in the ditch

You don’t have be a tigress in bed

Or be a genius with your head

You’ve just gotta make me laugh

When strife and pain

Are paving life’s path

You don’t have to be a gourmet chef

I can hold my own in the kitchen

With the best

You just gotta still be there

When everyone else has left

You don’t have to care for me

I take care of myself

Just keep loving me

When there’s nothing else

So hold my hand

When I reach for yours

Dance with me in

All our years

Sing me your songs

Even if off key

You just be you

And I’ll be me

We’ll wake up together every morning

And see what we’ll see

Dare the Dawn

I’ve walked the Great Wall of China

Felt the frigid Gobi Desert morn

Seen the isthmus of Panama

Been living since the second I was born

Crossed the Arctic Circle

Hit that sunburnt land

From Harbour Bridge

To Perth’s fields of iron ore

Yes and I’ve mined diamonds

Built NYC skyscrapers so tall

Battled snakes and alligators

In Brazil’s verdant jungles

Worked on bridges

Stretching to the Lions Gate

Toiled in plants on night shifts so early yet so late

Seen heavily armed soldiers

Defending in Columbia

Eaten snake in Beijing

Had drinks on The Peak of Hong Kong

Ran out of rice in Japan

All those years now gone and

Still I’m moving on

Seen death young and often

Drank and smoked and danced

Plenty times till dawn

Laughed and loved with many

Cried and sang out loud

Striving from the beginning

To simply stand out from the crowd

Early in this morning

That time tween dark and dawn

This the new day approaching

Fresh adventures lie ahead

Youth being nourished

By the life it is fed

I know I will drink of it greedily

Till on that final sleep

I lay down my head.

Seekers

Some of us are seekers,

Doomed to never find

Yet also blessed with

The yearning for our peace divine

Forever travellers on roads

Others stay close to home

Bound to where they were born

Those few that ever seek

Those are friends of mine

To learn everyday

Of oneself in some way

Worth more than any gold

You could pay

Seeking the journey

Not the destination

To jump off the edge

Without hesitation

To listen more than speak

To all those we meet

For wisdom listens

While knowledge speaks

Jimi said that

And we all know where he was at

Life, like a river flows

Not all good not all bad

Ebbs and flows

Not all happy nor sad

Simply each day a gift

One that I now have

Never settle

Question and think

Explore at random

Never fear the unknown abyss

Sometimes simply fall into it a drift

Home the endless quest

It’s a feeling not a place that exists.

Tis’ the Season

It may be the season

Though not everyone receives gifts

For a variety of reasons

Some sit down to family

Laden feast tables

Festive drinks and dessert treats

While others shiver

Homeless and hungry on the streets

There are some that party

Dance and celebrate

The new year well now not the night

While others, huddle alone

In the dark ,

Cold and wet,

Facing the guarded border

After their thousand mile trek

Some children, showered with gifts

While others sold away for food

That the rest of their kin may eat

Some people, really never grow up

For other children –

Seeking simple childhood

Are just out of luck

You may not be able

To change all these things

It’s tempting to resign oneself

Saying, it’s all to much

Yet with those you meet

Each day

Heaps you can do

To help them on their way

A smile, a pause to really listen

A check-in on how they’re doing

A call rather than a txt

A dollar if you can

To causes that support others best

Yes, it’s the season

You can but …

Will you make it

Someone else’s best?

Muse

Don’t need a lover,

Don’t need a friend

Just need a muse

So I can write again

Sunday afternoon

Or arvo as she’d say

Rolling Stones on

Listening to Keef play

Bottle of whisky

Close at hand

All the ever wanted to do

Was play in a rock n roll band

Well yeah don’t need a lover,

Don’t need another friend

Just need a muse

So I can write again

So dance into my life

Shake it up baby

Give me some strife

Too calm too quiet at night

Annoy me bother me

Be like a nagging wife

Don’t need a lover,

Don’t need a friend

Just need a muse

So I can write again

Yeah, I just need a muse

So I can write-again.

Rainforest Lady

She lives on the island

Though her hearts back east

Absorbing rainy days in dampness

She thinks of snow blowing in the streets

Loves to laugh and listens to country music

Nor shy to enjoy a dance and a drink or two

She means so much to you

Her boys, yeah now their grown

Though still their mom,

They now have women of their own

Her holidays can drag

With only memories of before

Still she carry’s on

Ever growing, learning

Always seeking new and more

Her eyes flash with brilliance

As her smile lights the room

Living caring for others

It’s just what she wants to do

Her urge to feel needed always shining through

And try as you might to deny it

She means so much to you

She’s as happy hiking the wooded trail

Or catching fish on the river

As travelling to a sunny shore

Real as the day is long

Authentic to a fault

The girl next door, though with twice the life smarts

Yeah there’s times

She can be moody or upset

But it passes quickly

You soon forget

Her feet get cold in winter

While a tasteful meal she can cook

Chilling with her dog Smudge and her cat named Boots

And you know it , and some days she knows it too

Even when not spoken

Truth is, she’s grown

To mean so much to you.
