Winter Awakening

Dawn, it’s there though hidden still

In these early between night and day hours

Like a page in that book you haven’t yet read

Sleep encrusted eyes blink as they exercise

Preparing to see into a new day

Mind both blank and covered in scribbled notes to self

Cluttered,as you commence to organize and file the pertinent details into a plan for today

Punctuation is important

That season, both cold and warmth filled; for some- Christmas

Creeps closer on every dawn

Unfilled resolutions stoke fires of regret

As new ones are crafted for approaching year

The parade of life

Or rather parades, as each dances down the street of attempts to a different tune

Swell and fluctuate while earth spins at 460miles a second

The first coffee ingested as blindly automatically as it was prepared

A catalyst or addiction

Depending on you’re POV

Much like you to me.

So Remember

It’s late this night

As thoughts rustle through my mind

Sleep that I envy, just can’t seem to find

Now before the new day

It you that’s on my mind

Truth, what is it when spoken

Hidden in the mind or

Broken

Catch the wind – you can’t

Nor will the much vaunted tensile strength

Of the spiders web support you

Earth than spins around

Moon that controls the tides on ground

The wonder of the northern lights

Dim when I remember you

Yes, it’s late this night

And I so remember you.

New Write, Old Refrain

Well yeah, I repay my debts
With karma
Was just a drifting soul
Didn’t ask you to intercede
Yet you did
N I lost control

So I hold you tonight
In my darkest dreams
So tight
Impossible to break free
Though I try with all my might

Life on cruise control
Then you slammed
The pedal to the floor
Drove with me into destiny
Wrapping chains
Around my soul

So I hold you tonight
In my darkest dreams
So tight
Impossible to break free
Though I try with all my might

Travelling on a map
That goes on forever
On that continent
Surrounded by oceans
Where summer never ends

So I hold you tonight
In my darkest dreams
So tight
Impossible to break free
Though I try with all my might

I rise in the morning
Seeking only the night
To fall asleep again
Be with you, where everything is right

So I hold you tonight
In my darkest dreams
So tight
Impossible to break free
Though I try with all my might

Rear View

You can’t go back

You can’t relive

It’s all the same in your mind

It’s so different the second time round

Go to the memory

Savour it so well

On ever going back again

Not a moment dwell

What was, belonged in a time

Oh yeah it was wonderful, it was fine

The past is locked from entry

For a reason

Time travel a narcissistic dream

Going back is never what it seemed

Look ahead my young man

Rock it today

Leave the past in memory

Not reality just a fun place to play

Never look back

Now I know what Dylan meant when he said

Never look back

We’re moving forward again.

Wisdom

Long ago, I learned

From a Chinese philosopher

That though, people admire

The cup, for all its design

Form and beauty

It’s actually the void inside

That’s gives it functionality

I heard from a great musician

A guitarist of wealth, talent and fame

It’s not the notes you play

Rather the ones you leave out

That make the sweetest refrain

It’s taken me years to understand

Though finally now

I know what they mean

That emptiness inside

Gives life to the deep night silent scream

To have all you desire

In things, material and gold

Is completely meaningless

Without having someone special,

To hold.

It Will Be

As my time shortens

I find my patience grows

Counter intuitive though this is,

I know.

Instant gratification no longer holds

The attraction-

Rather the anticipation

Is what glows

Causes the happiness

Within my soul to now sow

It was different, in the years gone by

Now this morning, I sit

Wondering why?

To plant the seed

Nurture it,

Slowly watching it grow

This now provides pleasures

Hitherto unknown

So to all the youth

Rushing to and fro

Demanding instant satisfaction

I’d just like you to know

Time is both the enemy and the friend

Having something to look forward to

Is the best in the end.
